The three most common triggers of lymphedema for at risk patients are: (1) weight gain; (2) trauma; (3) infection. Even when lymphedema is present, these three factors must always be monitored and controlled to keep lymphedema in a manageable state. Even modest weight loss can create enormous benefits to the swollen body region.
